Hello, everyone and welcome to my blog Obsidian Concepts. The purpose of this blog is to share my passions for firearms and gear, tactics, military, and news within the industry. I want to create a hub of reliable, cohesive, and relevant material for today's shooter. I am seeking to appeal to all demographics so the novice, experienced, LE and military communities. I am here to be transparent and honest on all matters discussed or chronicled here. I will post content once a week at minimum or more often if time allows.
Now, a little bit about me. I served six years in the Marines Corps as an 0311. I was in 2nd BN 4th Marines, 5th Marine Reg, 1st Mar Div. I was in Golf Company while in 2/4. I was deployed twice during my time in. I did one deployment to Afghanistan and my second was on the 31st MEU. I departed the military in September of 2015. I currently work as an RSO at a local range in Vegas.

In mid-February Winchester released two new loads for 6.5 PRC designed by Hornady. The new 6.5 PRC continues to gain popularity and renown in hunting and precision shooting communities. The cartridge has gained so much traction that firearms manufacturers such as Ruger, Springfield Armory, and Mossberg have created rifles for the 6.5 PRC cartridge.
The HK MP5 is one of the most recognized and iconic firearms ever produced. Over the last couple of decades MP5 clones have thrived in the United States market with popular clones from names like Omega and Zenith. This is due to HK not selling a civilian compliant MP5 until the reintroduction with HK SP5. Now, Century Arms introduces their own MP5 clone with the AP5 (Apparatus Pistol).
Recently, FN announced that NATO accepted and standardized FN’s 5.7x28mm cartridge for its standard small arms portfolio. This puts FN in rare company of having a cartridge standardized to be used by NATO forces and allies. The new 5.7x28mm cartridge joins 9x19mm, 5.56x45mm, 7.62x51mm, and .50 BMG as standardized ammunition used by NATO.
Recently, Vortex Optics announced the opening of their amazing new indoor/outdoor shooting complex. Vortex’s new shooting complex is called Vortex Edge. This new range has everything to accommodate new shooters, experience shooters, military and law enforcement professionals.
MDT is known for making high quality chassis for bolt action rifles. The company designs chassis for general use to competition. Now, MDT is releasing their new hunting chassis—the HNT26. This chassis is described by MDT, as their first purpose built hunting chassis.

A new bill was introduced to the South Carolina House on January 12th, this bill would grant citizens of South Carolina to open carry handguns in a public setting. It is illegal to open carry in public in the state. One of the last few states that outright prohibits the open carrying of a handgun. The South Carolina bill is known as Bill 3094 “Open Carry With Training”. It would allow residents of South Carolina who posses a CCW permit to open carry in public places.
Streamlight is known for making quality flashlight and weapon lights. They are one of the go-to companies for lights due to build quality and all those beautiful lumens. Recently, Streamlight released the TLR-10 that features a 1,000 lumens of light and a integrated red laser at the bottom of the optic. The new TLR-10 takes CR123A batteries and a 50,000 hour lifetime LED.
Last week, information was circulating on social media that TommyBuilt Tactical had received a letter from the ATF. Prominent voices within the firearm community such as Garand Thumb and others mentioned the news in their story or as an actual post.
