Michael Myers Returns: Two New Halloween Games Announced

Yesterday, IGN exclusively revealed that two games are currently in development based on the iconic Halloween horror franchise, featuring the terror-inducing Michael Myers. With his menacing stature, emotionless mask, and trademark knife, Myers is set to invade our nightmares once again.

Details about the two upcoming games are still limited, but it’s known that both are being developed in close collaboration with the producers of the Halloween film series. One of the titles is being built on Unreal Engine 5, with horror legend John Carpenter directly involved in the game’s development. In an interview with Insider, Carpenter, an avid gamer himself, expressed his enthusiasm: “As a huge gamer myself, I’m thrilled to help bring Michael Myers to life again in this game, and my hope is to scare you silly.”

According to an official press release from developer Boss Team Games, the titles will allow players to “relive moments from the film and play as classic characters from one of the most iconic and important horror films of all time.” The games are being developed in partnership with Compass International Pictures and Further Front, using the cutting-edge Unreal Engine 5.

The Halloween franchise, now over 45 years old, has had limited representation in the gaming world. Notable appearances include the 1983 Atari 2600 game Halloween, where players took on the role of a babysitter trying to escape Michael Myers, and more recently, his presence as “The Shape” in Dead by Daylight.

This venture into the Halloween universe marks a return to familiar territory for Boss Team Games, the studio behind Evil Dead: The Game. That title, an asymmetrical multiplayer experience, pitted players against the supernatural horrors from the Evil Dead film series.

Steve Harris, CEO of Boss Team Games, shared the team’s excitement about the upcoming Halloween games, stating, “Everyone at Boss Team Games are huge fans of horror, and Halloween obviously holds a special place in the hearts of all horror fans. Getting to work with iconic characters like Michael Myers and build on John Carpenter’s original vision is literally a dream come true. Everyone at Boss Team is thrilled and honored to be working with Malek Akkad and John Carpenter to deliver a one-of-a-kind experience that fans of the movie and video games will love.”

At this time, neither Halloween project has a release date. Stay tuned to Loadout Magazine for updates on these highly anticipated titles.
