DC Expands the Absolute Universe With Bold New Green Arrow and Catwoman Series

At the recent DC Comics presentation at ComicsPro the publisher officially announced the continued expansion of its increasingly popular Absolute Universe into 2026. Readers were given their first look at two new spin-off titles: Absolute Green Arrow and Absolute Catwoman both building on the darker, more grounded reinterpretations that have defined this new continuity.

Absolute Green Arrow

The upcoming Absolute Green Arrow will initially launch as a six-issue limited series following the events of last year’s Absolute Evil one-shot. That story introduced readers to this universe’s version of Oliver McQueen, though this incarnation is far removed from the traditional heroic archer fans have known for decades.

In the Absolute Universe, Queen has evolved into a ruthless vigilante, targeting corrupt billionaires through calculated assassinations. The result is a climate of fear among the powerful elite, who now find themselves hunted rather than untouchable. To stop him, Dinah Lance, better known as Black Canary is contracted as a high-end protection specialist tasked with uncovering the Arrow’s true identity.

This reinterpretation leans heavily into tactical precision, moral ambiguity, and calculated violence. The character’s skillset and operational mindset feel closer to Death stroke than the socially conscious crusader traditionally associated with Green Arrow. Conceptually, the shift evokes parallels to the darker tonal reinventions seen in alternate timelines such as Flashpoint’s Thomas Wayne/Batman, a dramatic departure that could redefine audience expectations for the character.

Absolute Green Arrow #1 is scheduled for release on May 20, 2026.

Absolute Catwoman

Catwoman returns in Absolute Catwoman, continuing Selina Kyle’s story following her arc in Absolute Batman. That storyline revealed a deeply personal connection between Selina and Batman, portraying them as childhood friends whose relationship evolved into romance.

As the new limited series begins, Selina is enjoying the rewards of her hard-earned reputation as the world’s greatest cat burglar. But stability doesn’t last long. A figure from her past resurfaces, threatening both her present and future, forcing her back into survival mode as she attempts to identify and outmaneuver her mysterious adversary.

Absolute Catwoman #1 will release on June 10, 2026.

The Future of the Absolute Universe

DC also teased the first major Absolute Universe crossover event, currently planned for Q4 2026. While details remain limited, the announcement signals long-term investment in this darker continuity and its evolving roster of characters.

With bold reinterpretations, morally complex protagonists, and a willingness to push iconic heroes into unfamiliar territory, the Absolute line is quickly becoming one of DC’s most intriguing modern initiatives.
