Earlier this week, the Xbox Showcase 2024 offered the strongest outing by Microsoft in several years. The showcase featured big surprises like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. During the event, we got a first look at Gears of War: E-Day, the Perfect Dark remake, and Black Ops 6. Nestled among the big releases were creative new IPs and indie projects like State of Decay 3, Winter Burrow, and South of Midnight.
Xbox Showcase 2024 presented the most diverse lineup of games and creativity the company has offered in a long time. It introduced new IPs that players have been eagerly awaiting while also delivering content from its strongest titles such as Call of Duty, Doom, and Gears. Below are the top five games from Xbox Showcase 2024 with trailers.
Doom: The Dark Ages
Doom is back, baby, and better than ever! This time, we go back in time to explore the origins of the Doom Slayer in this prequel to his legendary demon-slaying saga. In a short, visceral, and bloody gameplay trailer of Doom: The Dark Ages, we see a never-before-seen conflict with hell. Like in previous Doom games, the Doom Slayer relies on his trusty shotgun, speed, and power to overcome the hordes of Hell. This time, his blood-filled rampage includes new weapons, such as a powerful shield that can help him stun demons, close the gap for a gruesome kill, or be thrown like a deadly boomerang to slaughter foes.
Indiana Jones and The Great Circle
MachineGames, a Swedish studio under Bethesda Studios known for breathing new life into BJ Blazkowicz and the Wolfenstein series, is now working on the promising new Indiana Jones and The Great Circle. Still on track for a 2024 release, the new trailer shows Indy in ancient ruins with secrets waiting to be discovered and Nazis hot on his tail. This game is set between Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade. From the youthful appearance of Harrison Ford in the trailer, it’s likely closer to Raiders. Once again, Indy must face off against sinister forces as he seeks to uncover the truth behind history’s greatest mysteries and the occult.
Perfect Dark Reboot
Seeing a trailer for the Perfect Dark Zero reboot was one of the biggest surprises of the showcase. Perfect Dark made its grand return with a slick, action-packed trailer, giving us a glimpse of the potential story we will explore with Agent Dark. The trailer combined espionage and gun battles using futuristic weapons. In this game, Joanna Dark is on the hunt for the world’s most dangerous criminal, Daniel Carrington, to uncover a mysterious secret that threatens the world.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater was a pleasant surprise with a brand-new gameplay trailer, showcasing all-new graphics and 3D audio. The classic story of Snake Eater remains the same, telling the epic tale of Naked Snake and his evolution into Big Boss. The gameplay has been overhauled to emphasize survival and stealth in the harsh wilderness, using your cunning and environment to defeat enemies. For Metal Gear Solid purists, the remake will offer a traditional control scheme to switch back to the original play style if preferred.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6
The Call of Duty series is one of the most successful video game franchises in history, and one of its most successful spin-offs has been the Black Ops series. Black Ops 6, co-developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, is billed as an action spy thriller. This new game takes place in the 90s, after the events of Cold War. The new Black Ops experience will feature 16 new multiplayer maps designed for 6 vs 6 gameplay. Call of Duty’s Zombie Multiplayer is back, and an open beta will be held before Black Ops 6 releases. Black Ops 6 will be available on October 25th, with campaign access a week earlier for those who pre-order.
