Kaunas, Lithuania - 2021, August 12: Sony PlayStation 5. New generation gaming computer

15 Hours & Counting:PlayStation Network Suffers One of Its Longest Outages Yet

PlayStation Network (PSN) has been offline since Friday evening, for over fifteen hours and counting. Marking one of the most widespread and prolonged outages in its history. While Sony’s status page vaguely states that “some services are experiencing issues,” the reality is a near-total disruption—sign-ins, online gaming, and the PlayStation Store remain inaccessible.

The first reports of the outage surfaced around 6 p.m. ET on Friday, and by 8:45 p.m. ET, the official AskPlayStation account acknowledged the issue, stating it was “aware some users might be currently experiencing issues with PSN.” However, no further updates have been provided, leaving millions of players in the dark about when services will be restored.

This outage has already surpassed the nine-hour disruption from October, frustrating players worldwide. Call of Duty fans, in particular, have voiced their frustration, as the outage coincides with a Black Ops 6 promotional event offering double XP through Monday. Meanwhile, reports of PSN issues continue to pour in from regions across the globe, including Japan, Australia, and Brazil.

Sony’s official PSN status page continues to show all services as down, and user-reported outages on Downdetector are steadily rising as more PlayStation owners attempt to log in.

Sony has yet to provide a timeline for a full restoration, but the company has confirmed that it is actively working to resolve the problem. Until then, PlayStation users will have to wait for further updates.
