A Legend Reimagined: SIG Sauer Introduces the SIG MCX-LTAW Suppressed SBR
There are certain firearms that captivate shooters because of their history, cultural impact through television and film, rarity, or limited availability. Many of these firearms remain unattainable to the average shooter because they were developed primarily for military and law enforcement use. Firearms that meet this standard include the HK MP7, KAC M110K1, and SIG MCX Low Visibility Assault Weapon (LVAW).
For years, clone builders have chased the LVAW because the platform was not commercially available to the civilian market in its original configuration. That scarcity helped fuel an entire clone-building community, with websites such as Clone Rifles providing detailed parts breakdowns for enthusiasts trying to recreate the platform.
Now, after years of waiting, Sig Sauer is bringing the spirit of the LVAW to the commercial market with the new MCX LTAW that premiered at the SIG Next Event this week.
Editior’s note: In this article we cover the SIG MCX-LTAW Suppressed SBR model (MCX-LTAW SSBR) as the base model. This is the model which will be desired the most since it’s the most accurate model of the iconic MCX LVAW.

The Details
The Upper Receiver
The MCX-LTAW SSBR features an LVAW-inspired handguard with an integrated heat shield while retaining the compact, boxy appearance associated with the original platform. Underneath the handguard is a 6.75-inch cold-hammer-forged barrel connected to the SIG muzzle device and, on the Suppressor SBR Combo, the SIG SQX suppressor.
The system also features an adjustable gas block intended to accommodate both supersonic and subsonic .300 Blackout ammunition.
SIG describes the MCX-LTAW SSBR as delivering suppressed performance while maintaining the reliability, accuracy, and adaptability associated with the MCX platform.
The Lower Receiver & Accessories
The MCX-LTAW SSBR is built around an MCX-LT lower receiver and features a skeletonized Kate Moss stock, MCX Legacy angled pistol grip, and SIG’s Mil-Spec two-stage Match trigger. SIG describes the trigger as providing a “crisp, predictable break.”
Sig Sauer also collaborated with Arisaka to provide an accessory package that includes a hand stop, indexer, light mount, and QD mount. This gives the Suppressor SBR Combo a selection of accessories straight from the factory.
The Suppressor SBR Combo also includes a factory-installed SIG ROMEO4T-PRO red-dot optic, giving the configuration a complete factory package built around the .300 Blackout platform.

The Variants
SIG MCX-LTAW Pistol
The SIG MCX-LTAW Pistol is the base configuration of the new platform. This version removes several of the features included with the Suppressor SBR Combo and instead comes with a SIG pistol brace, MCX Legacy angled pistol grip, and training tube.
The Pistol configuration does not include the Arisaka accessory package, Kate Moss stock, or functional suppressor.

SIG MCX-LTAW SBR
The SIG MCX-LTAW SBR retains much of the configuration found on the Pistol model, with one major change: the pistol brace is replaced by the skeletonized Kate Moss stock.
The SBR also includes the MCX Legacy angled pistol grip and training suppressor rather than the functional suppressor included with the Suppressor SBR Combo.

The Bottom Line
The SIG MCX-LVAW was a rare and unique rifle designed for such a specific purpose that its versatility made civilian shooters want access to the platform. Over the years, its popularity, rarity, and lore grew within the firearms community, particularly among clone builders.
The desire to complete an LVAW clone eventually led third-party manufacturers to produce components that could help shooters recreate the platform. Over time, some original rifles also entered the civilian market when law enforcement agencies sold them as surplus, often at exorbitant prices. For buyers seeking a .300 BLK suppressed SBR, these rifles could come with heavy use, questionable component condition, and parts that might need replacement…all while leaving the buyer hoping the clone market still produced the specific part they needed.
SIG Sauer has now taken one of its most iconic MCX configurations and made it available to the civilian market. The new MCX-LTAW SSBR is not a one-to-one clone of the original LVAW, but it may be the closest factory-produced configuration to the original that we see on the market again.
The MCX LVAW features the Spear LT receiver set and redesigned suppressor handguards with increased rigidity to help IR aiming devices retain zero. It also maintains the compact configuration that made the original LVAW distinctive. At the end of the day, this appears to be a significant opportunity for SIG Sauer. The bigger question is whether SIG can price the rifle appropriately for the market and turn the demand surrounding the LVAW into sales.
