There is a lot to unwrap with the new PS5 coming holiday or next year. I was finally able to track down all the information for the specs and hardware for the new Sony console.
Now, let’s get into the rundown.
Specs
The new PS5 will be a beast of a console. With a powerful CPU, ray tracing capabilities, SSD storage, 4K & 8k resolutions, and a 4K Blu-ray drive.
CPU: The PS5 CPU will be a 8-core AMD chipset based on third generation Ryzen architecture; 7nm Zen 2.
GPU: Will have a custom AMD Navi GPU, that support ray tracing at a hardware level for developers. Which will allow developers to offer better lighting and shadow dynamics graphically.
Audio: 3D Audio Mark
Storage: The PS5 will have SSD (Solid State Drive). The SSD will dramatically reduce load times in video games. Sony states that the SSD reduce Insomniac Games Spider-Man load time from 15 seconds to 0.8 seconds.
Resolution: 4K and 8k resolution (if your tv is capable of 8k)
4K Blu-ray player: The Blu-ray player will be able to read up to 100GB 4K discs
Features
Backwards Compatibility: The PS5 will have backwards compatibility with PS4 games. A lot of the architecture of the PS4 is in the PS5 which makes the compatibility easier.
Digital Only: The PS5 will not be digital only. You will have a physical drive for discs. Unlike the Xbox One-S
Cloud Gaming: There will be some form of cloud gaming. Sony’s approach to that will become clearly moving towards the launch of the PS5.
PS5 Virtual Reality: Virtual reality has been confirmed for the new PS5 for the current hardware. New VR hardware could be coming after launch for the PS5.
Configurable Game Installations: The SSD in the PS5 will allow for players to keep the campaign of a game and delete the multiplayer, if the developer support that features. Giving gamers more options
Better Game Optimization: The SSD within the PS5 will also remove the need for developers to duplicate data. Which will give developers more freedom to build bigger or more detailed worlds and reduce the size of games or patches.
Better UI: The PS5 will have the ability at the home screen to view current available missions or to allow players to jump into multiplayer in real time.
The New DualShock Controller
The new DualShock controller doesn’t have a name yet. Most are dubbing it DualShock 5. The new DualShock controller will do some very cool things it’s predecessor does not.
Adaptive Triggers: The new trigger will allow different levels of resistance when playing a game. Allowing for a more immersive experience. The resistance would be different for pulling a string of a bow or pulling the trigger of a gun.
Haptic Feedback: The haptic feedback in the new DualShock will be greatly enhanced. The new controller will allow you to feel the differences of surfaces as an example.
USB: USB Type-C will be supported by the new DualShock controller.
What will the PS5 look like?
There is a leak picture of the dev kit for the new PS5 in the Shape of V. An obvious reference to the Roman numeral of five. Sony refused to say if that will be the final look of the console. (Honestly, I am kinda of torn on the look. If that is the final product.) The images leaked are the dev kit so it could look drastically different by launch.
What will the ne DualShock controller look like?
We do not know that either. There is an image of a PS4 controller with a touch screen in the middle, floating around twitter. This has not been confirmed as the new controller. The information given makes it seems like it’s a reach but it could be real. At, this point we don’t know that either.
Alright everyone that is the rundown of the new PS5 specs, features, and hardware.
What do you think about the new PS5 features and hardware? Let me know in the comments below.
