PlayStation’s Sate of Play live stream yesterday spotlighted various independent titles, the Kingdom Hearts III DLC, gave us a look at Predator, and confirmed rumors of a Resident Evil 3 Remake. It also gave us the ultimate tease for Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Tsushima. Also, in the in livestream fans received a thank you message from Ken Kutaragi regarding the 25th Anniversary of the PlayStation game console. There was a lot covered in the last State of Play for 2019. Now, Let’s get into breakdown of the livestream.
Indie Games
PlayStation showed off five indie titles. Four are for console and one for PlayStation VR. The five titles are: the Untitled Goose Game, Spellbreak, Made in Dreams, Superliminal, and the VR title Paper Beast. I will only discuss the 3 that caught my eye.
Untitled Goose Game
The first indie game that caught my eye was the Untitled Goose Game by House House. You play as goose and proceed with being the local nuisance within your neighborhood while being a major kleptomaniac. It has a fun and simple art style and game direction and objectives that might offer a light hearted journey.
Spellbreak
Next, game is Spellbreak by Proletariat Games. It is a battle royale game set against the backdrop of medieval landscape where everyone uses magical powers. The beta is set for spring of 2020.
Superliminal
The final game is Superliminal. It essentially takes the Inception idea of dreams and throws another layer onto it. You are so deep in a sleep cycle you can’t wake up and you are losing grip of your active dream consciousness. You have to navigate through mazes to find your way back. The game plays with your sense of reality and perspective. Superliminal will be hitting consoles for PS4 in 2020.
Double & Triple A Titles
During the live stream PlayStation covered their double and triple A titles also. Fans received news on Kingdom Hearts, Predator: Hunting Grounds, Babylon’s Fall, confirmation of Resident Evil 3 Remake, and a quick glimpse of Ghost of Tsushima.
Kingdom Hearts III Re:mind DLC
Fans of Kingdom Hearts received a trailer for the upcoming DLC. The Kingdom Heart’s DLC is titled Re:mind. The new Kingdom Hearts DLC lands January 23rd on PS4.
Predator: Hunting Grounds
The Predator: Hunting Grounds trailer gave us a glimpse at the Predator classes and weapons available in the game. You have can play as a Hunter, Scout, or Berserker. All with their own skills sets, strengths, and weakness. Each class will have a weapon of choice. Hunters will receive compound bows. Scouts will receive the shoulder fired laser, and the Berserkers will receive a circular blade.
Resident Evil 3 Remake
The most important reveal from the State of Play livestream is confirmation of Resident Evil 3 with an official trailer. Fans have been theorizing on Reddit and other forums about existence of a RE3 remake. Now, it is confirmed. Also, with the reveal of the RE3 remake you will get Project Resistance game included with the remake.
Babylon’s Fall
The game that has piqued the most interest from me is Babylon’s Fall. Its a collaboration between Square Enix and Platinum Games. It is a medieval yet stylish hack and slash game. To me it looks like a mix of Devil May Cry with Dark Souls type of combat mixed together. The first trailer was heavy on showing off the combat. It looks great and challenging. I am excited to see more from this game.
Thank You to PlayStation Fans
Towards the end of the livestream Ken Kuturagi founder/creator of the PlayStation gave a thank you to fans. He spoke about his dream for PlayStation when he started it 25 years ago within Sony. That it was about bringing the medium to more people around the world. He was thankful for everyone’s love and support for making the PlayStation game console such a success.
Sucker Punch’s Big Tease
People have been looking for more news on Ghost of Tsushima since E3 2017. Now, we have our first new look at the game since that time. We get a 45 second glimpse. After that the narrator tells us to look forward to the full trailer at Video Game Awards on December 12th. I am excited to learn more about Sucker Punch feudal Japan epic.
