The new teaser image and short video is currently available on its own Steam page for the new VR headset by HP. The new HP headset is billed as “Next Gen HP VR Headset” on the Steam page.
The new HP VR headset is a collaboration between HP, Valve, and Microsoft.
Here is the product description from HP’s Steam page.
The next generation HP Virtual Reality HMD – developed in collaboration with Valve and Microsoft – delivers an immersive, comfortable and compatible VR experience. It’s the new standard in VR.”
In the past Valve has worked with HTC to bring the Vive VR headset into a reality. It may seem strange for Valve to be collaborating with HP and Microsoft. When it comes down to VR and VR technology Valve has encouraged other companies to join the VR market. Valve has also been sharing its research and has allowed their new game Half-Life Alyx run on a wide range of VR headsets currently on the market.
The Steam page doesn’t give us an estimate on how much the new HP VR headset will cost. Valve’s VR headset comes in at $499. An Oculus Rift S bundled with controllers comes in at $399. So, the new HP VR headset can be priced between those two or more potentially. We will have to wait and see.
