Shot Show 2024: PTR Industries Shows Off The Archon Type B Gen 1 And Gen 2 Pistols
News|Industry News

In mid-December, PTR Industries made a notable announcement regarding the importation of the Archon Type B Gen 1 and Gen 2 pistols for the U.S. market. Additionally, PTR will undertake the manufacturing and customer service responsibilities for the Type B in the U.S. market. At Shot Show 2024, we’re treated to our initial glimpse of the Archon Type B Gen 2. Let’s delve deeper into this intriguing pistol from the Czech Republic.

The first generation of the Type B was released to the U.S. market way back in 2018. The main feature that set the original Type B apart was its AF Speed Lock System. Instead of a tilting barrel design, the barrel moved straight back under recoil. The AF Speedlock barrel design allowed the Type B to achieve a lower bore axis compared to modern pistols like a Glock. This lower bore axis reduces felt recoil and muzzle rise but adds a locking piece to the design.

The Archon Type B Gen 2 retains that internal architecture but now features a modular grip. You can now turn your Type B Gen 2 into a subcompact (G26), compact (G19), or full-size (G17) pistol by adding or removing the modular grips. This modularity gives end-users the versatility to use this gun for self-defense purposes or competition with ease.
The new Type B Gen 2 is optics-ready with three different optic cuts to choose from: RMR, RMSc, and ACRO cut. The pistols will also have a threaded barrel option.

The new Archon Type B Gen 1 and Gen 2 are available now through PTR and authorized PTR dealers. The Archon Type B Gen 1 retails for $855 MSRP and the Gen 2 will retail for $960-$999 MSRP, depending on optics cut you choose. For more on the Archon Type B, head over to PTR’s website.
