First Look At David Corenswet as Superman and Mr. Terrific’s Debut in James Gunn’s DC Universe

Yesterday, new Superman set photos emerged online, featuring star David Corenswet in costume as the Man of Steel. The snapshots also revealed Mr. Terrific’s introduction to James Gunn’s DC Universe. Gunn’s Superman movie will be the first official film resetting the DC movie universe from Zack Snyder’s vision. Recently, more details have emerged indicating that the Superman movie will be the first chapter in a much bigger story designed to invite more DC alumni into the fold.

With principal photography in full swing in Cleveland, there has been a slew of leaked photos of Corenswet’s in his Superman suit, reported by Cleveland.com yesterday. The new suit takes inspiration from iconic Superman suits from past comic eras, such as the one from 1996’s Superman: Kingdom Come.

We also got our first detailed look at Mr. Terrific, played by Edi Gathegi. Many may be asking, “Who is Mr. Terrific?” Good question. I had to do a little research myself, so here is a basic rundown. Mr. Terrific’s real name is Michael Holt. This superpowered individual made his debut in Spectre volume 3 #54 in June 1997. Over the last 25 years, he has taken on an integral role within DC Comics.

When it comes to his abilities, you can think of Mr. Terrific as a mix of Iron Man and Batman. He possesses incredible intelligence (he has 14 PhDs and is considered to be the third smartest man on Earth). Holt is also a self-made millionaire, company founder, and Olympic gold medalist. He is the second person to take on the name Mr. Terrific after Terry Sloane.

Mr. Terrific has plenty of tech and gadgets to assist him in his crime-fighting journey, such as T-Spheres that float around him. These spheres help him in combat, project holograms, break into buildings, and allow him to fly. Mr. Terrific is a jack of all trades and a worthy ally for Superman on this journey in the DCU.

Throughout the day, more videos and photos were leaked by @MikeNormanCLE and @DCverso1. We catch a glimpse of a massive scene featuring Superman being arrested and led by Rick Flag and a Special Operations task force. They are seen guarding Superman as they escort him. We also get a glimpse of a figure in black who is escorting Superman as well.

At the moment, we do not know who this man in black is, since he is completely masked. However, that information will likely be forthcoming in the days and weeks that follow. One hypothesis is that it could be a new take on Ultraman, traditionally known as Superman’s doppelgänger from Earth-3. If you look closely at the suit, you can see a grey U-symbol on his chest. We will have to wait and see what this mystery character has to offer in Gunn’s Superman story.

As anticipation builds for James Gunn’s Superman movie, the recent set photos and character reveals have only heightened excitement among fans. With David Corenswet donning a suit inspired by iconic Superman designs and the intriguing addition of Mr. Terrific, portrayed by Edi Gathegi, the film promises to breathe new life into the DC Universe. The potential inclusion of a mysterious figure in black, possibly Ultraman, adds another layer of intrigue.
