John Wick Universe Expands with New TV Series, Stahelski & Reeves at the Helm

In an exclusive interview with Deadline, Chad Stahelski revealed that he will be expanding the John Wick universe with a new TV series titled John Wick: Under The High Table. The show is being executive produced by Keanu Reeves, who played the titular character, John Wick, as well as Stahelski, who directed the billion-dollar film series. Stahelski is also set to direct the first episode of the new series, according to Deadline.

Robert Levine is handling the writing duties for John Wick: Under The High Table. The story picks up directly after the events of John Wick: Chapter 4, where the High Table is in turmoil and chaos following the defeat of High Table member Marquis Vincent Bisset de Gramont, portrayed by Bill Skarsgård. The series will explore the aftermath of this upheaval and how the High Table will reshape itself after the devastation wrought by Wick in his quest for freedom. The show will feature veteran characters from the film series while also introducing new characters into the fold.

The official logline for the new show, as reported by Deadline, reads:

“John Wick has left the world of the High Table in a tenuous position, and a collection of new characters will look to make a name for themselves while some of the franchise’s stalwart characters remain committed to the old-world order. The series will combine new and old and thrust the Wick universe into a new age.”

In January, Stahelski signed a deal with Lionsgate to oversee the creative direction of the John Wick franchise across film, TV, and other media, becoming the Kevin Feige of the billion-dollar action franchise he helped create. John Wick: Under The High Table will be produced by his company, 87Eleven Entertainment. Levine, who serves as the showrunner, will also serve as executive producer alongside Reeves, as well as Erica Lee and Basil Iwanyk from Thunder Road.

As of now, Reeves is involved as an executive producer with no confirmed acting role. However, Deadline reports that he is very hands-on with the project. The series is currently being shopped around, and it’s becoming a highly competitive situation among networks and streaming platforms.

In 2023, a fifth installment of the John Wick franchise was announced. However, details remain scarce, and it is unclear where the story will lead or who will be the central character, given the ambiguous fate of John Wick at the end of the fourth film.

The fourth film also included a post-credit scene hinting at a potential revenge arc for Akira (Rina Sawayama) against Caine (Donnie Yen) following the death of her father, Shimazu Koji (Hiroyuki Sanada), who faced off against Caine to protect her and John. Rumors of a spinoff movie focusing on Caine have also circulated.

Lionsgate Media and Stahelski are already busy expanding the John Wick universe. The studio is deep in development on the upcoming film Ballerina, starring Ana de Armas, which takes place between John Wick: Chapter 3 and Chapter 4.

As the John Wick universe continues to expand, fans can look forward to exploring new stories and characters that deepen the lore of this high-octane franchise. With Chad Stahelski at the creative helm and Keanu Reeves remaining actively involved, John Wick: Under The High Table promises to deliver the same intense action and intricate world-building that has made the series a global phenomenon. Whether through new films, spin-offs, or this upcoming TV series, the legacy of John Wick is set to endure, thrilling audiences with every new chapter.
