Press Release
GENESEO, ILL. (08/27/24) – Springfield Armory® proudly announces the launch of its 1911 Agency Optic System (AOS) pistols, which merge the time-tested reliability of the 1911 platform with state-of-the-art optics integration—available straight from the factory. The 1911 AOS from Springfield Armory blends the legendary 1911 design with advanced optics capabilities, delivering an unparalleled combination of versatility and performance.
Developed in collaboration with Agency Arms, the AOS employs a series of plates that accommodate a wide range of the industry’s most popular red dot sights, including those following the RMR, Shield, Delta Point Pro, and Docter footprints. This flexibility allows shooters to configure their handguns according to their individual preferences, ensuring optimal performance for every user.
All AOS-compatible handguns ship with a cover plate featuring a rear sight that matches the classic contour of the 1911’s slide. These plates are machined from billet steel for durability and precise fitment. Additional AOS plates designed for a wide range of optics are available for purchase from the Springfield Armory Store. Additionally, buyers of a 1911 AOS pistol can take advantage of a discounted price on one AOS optic plate of their choice for just $49—an $80 savings.
At launch, the 1911 AOS offerings include the 1911 Emissary, the 1911 Operator, and the 1911 Ronin, all available in both 9mm and .45 ACP, with 5” and 4.25” barrel configurations. Notably, the new 1911 Operator 4.25” AOS, available in both .45 ACP and 9mm and featuring a lightweight aluminum frame, is a new addition to the Operator line.
“The 1911 is easily the most respected—and proven—pistol in history,” said Steve Kramer, Springfield Armory’s Vice President of Marketing. “With the new 1911 AOS, Springfield Armory is taking a revered 20th-century design and updating it for the 21st century with the ability to accept a wide range of today’s most advanced optics.”
