Over the last few years Game studio WB Montreal has been radio silent when has come to the Batman Arkham Series. They are the developers of the prequel Arkham Origins for Xbox 360 and PS3. Arkham Origins is the only Arkham game developed outside of Rocksteady Studios.
On September 22, WB Montreal sent out a tweet for the first time in four years. The tweet was a cryptic teaser for a new project. The tweet was in celebration of 80th Anniversary of Batman’s first comic book apperance back in 1939.
In the video on WB Montreal twitter page is of the bat symbol on a building. If you watch closely at :03 and :021 seconds you see a flash of a symbol.
On social media on Sunday, Batman enthusiasts and gamers where speculating on the reference of the hidden symbol. The symbol that flashes in the footage is from the secret society called Court of Owls. The Court of Owls was introduced during the new 52 Reboot by Scott Snyder.
In 2018 a WB Montreal developer tweeted a picture a with owl imagery on it. Like the one seen in the video footage. Looking back the tweet appears to be an reference to their upcoming project. But, that is just my pure speculation. Scott Snyder also tweeted and then later deleted a post referencing the Court of Owls. Adding even more veracity to idea of a new Batman game by WB Montreal.
Then, today WB Montreal sent out another teaser tweet. In the caption for the the tweet it says, “Capture the knight.” Below is a video of changing symbols that represent the Court of Owls. Which means we might be getting a look at Batman’s next adversary within the Arkham universe.
Back in 2016, Kotaku reported that WB Montreal had cancelled a suicide squad game and was shifting focus to a new Batman game staring Damian Wayne. Damian Wayne was featured in the 2012 story arc Night of the Owls apart of the new 52 continuity.
WB Montreal has posted numerous job posting on its official website. One of the job postings talks about working on a “Triple A unannounced game.”
So, it seems to be that WB Montreal is working on a new Batman game. The though of that has me really intrigued. I am a huge Batman fan and I loved the Arkham series of games. I would love to get my hands on a new Batman game for this console generation or the next.
What do you think about WB Montreal’s tweets? Would you be excited for a new Batman game? Let me know in the comments below.
