Press Release
GENESEO, ILL. (06/28/24) – Springfield Armory is proud to announce the release of two new 10-round 1911 DS Prodigy pistols — the 1911 DS Prodigy AOS Low Capacity and the 1911 DS Prodigy 4.25” AOS Low Capacity — designed for shooters who live in restrictive locales. The Prodigy takes the proven 1911 platform and enhances it with a performance-driven feature set.
The 10-round Prodigy features a polymer grip module that mounts to the pistol’s forged steel frame. The grip module incorporates a wraparound Adaptive Grip Texture treatment, made popular on the Hellcat family of 9mm pistols. Complementing this grip module and the forged steel receiver is a forged steel slide with forward serrations. Both the slide and the steel receiver feature a rugged black Cerakote® finish. Housed within the slide is a match-grade bushingless forged stainless steel bull barrel in both models. Both the 5” and the 4.25” 10-round Prodigy pistols are ready to accept a wide range of optical sights. The Prodigy employs AOS (Agency Optic System) plates designed exclusively for the 1911 DS. Machined from billet 17-4 stainless steel, the AOS plates come fitted with a rear sight and are designed specifically to preserve visible iron sights for an intuitive sight picture and instant target acquisition.

The pistol ships with a cover plate with a rear sight as well as one optics-mounting plate. Additional plates designed to accept a wide range of popular optics are also available on the Springfield Armory Store. You can see a full fitment/optics compatibility chart for the AOS plate system here.
“The Prodigy has proven itself as a pistol that takes everything shooters love about the classic 1911 design and updates it with a host of modern performance enhancements,” said Steve Kramer, Vice President of Marketing for Springfield Armory. “With these new 10-round versions, the popular Prodigy pistol is now available to shooting enthusiasts in restrictive locales.”
With the introduction of the 10-round Prodigy AOS Low Capacity pistols, Springfield Armory continues to provide innovative solutions for shooters in restricted states. These new models offer the same high performance and modern enhancements as the original Prodigy, making them a versatile choice for both carry and range use. The 1911 DS Prodigy AOS Low Capacity pistols are available now and retail for $1,499. For more information, visit Springfield Armory’s website.
