LaRue Tactical Unveils the MRGG-S 6.5 Creedmoor 20” Rifle

Recently, LaRue Tactical introduced their latest offering, the MRGG-S 6.5 Creedmoor 20” rifle. This rifle was built in response to USSOCOM’s requirement for the Mid-Range Gas Gun – Sniper (MRGG-S) contract, which was issued in 2019.

The rifle submitted under this contract was required to have a 20-inch barrel chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, with sub-MOA accuracy at 100 yards. It also needed to feature a quick-change barrel system, the ability to host a suppressor, and operate within specific length and weight parameters. Product Description

This rifle is based on LaRue Tactical’s MRGG-S (Mid-Range Gas Gun – Sniper) design, originally submitted for use by SOCOM. As LaRue proudly states, “Equip yourself with the same quality hardware our elite warriors are fielding.”

Each rifle features a custom fluted, 20-inch barrel chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, equipped with a fully adjustable gas system. The rifle is outfitted with a 14.5-inch Quick-Disconnect handguard featuring M-LOK® on all sides. It also includes ambidextrous controls, such as the magazine release, safety selector, bolt release, and charging handle. The rifle is shipped with two LaRue Tactical battle-proven 20-round magazines and a preset torque wrench for easy barrel removal and reinstallation.

The LT10 6.5 Creedmoor is the ultimate lightweight long-distance rifle. One of its standout features is the ability to be completely “broken down” and stored in a compact package. The rifle’s handguard features a locking stainless steel QD Lever system on each side. Once the levers are released, the M-LOK® handguard slides off the upper assembly in seconds. The barrel can be easily removed using the supplied Barrel Torque Wrench. There’s no need to remove the gas tube, gas block, or muzzle device. Reinstallation is just as straightforward—hand-tighten the Barrel Nut and apply torque with the provided preset torque wrench. Once reassembled correctly, the point of impact (POI) shift will be minimal, ranging from 0.0 to 0.5 MOA of the original.

The barrels are chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor with rifling at a 1/7.5 twist rate. All barrels are threaded in 5/8 x 24 and include a LaRue TranQuilo Brake pre-installed. Similar to the OBR, PredatAR, and PredatOBR rifles, LaRue has eliminated the conventional AR barrel nut and attached the handguard directly to the upper receiver, creating a true “free-float” barrel. The upper receiver includes an improved barrel support device that provided increased accuracy during military trials. The handguard does not touch the barrel or barrel nut at any point. The zero-MOA upper rail offers ample space for mounting night-vision and day/night optic combinations. Both the upper and lower receivers are CNC-machined from billet aluminum for optimal fit and consistency.

This rifle’s adjustable gas block allows the shooter to control the amount of gas used to cycle the action, optimizing performance with different types of ammunition, reducing recoil, and minimizing wear on internal components. Adjusting the gas block can also help fine-tune the rifle’s behavior for different shooting conditions, such as when using a suppressor or shooting in adverse weather.

The LaRue Tactical 6-position Retract Action Trigger (R.A.T.) Stock comes standard with every rifle. It is ergonomic, with protected control surfaces and an internal compartment containing a set of cleaning rods. Since the height of the 12 o’clock rail is optimally positioned, there is no need for a cheek riser as part of this system.
