Onward Research Teases New AK and MP5 Handguards

Over the past week, Onward Research has teased some exciting new additions to its lineup, focusing on two vastly different—yet equally legendary—firearm platforms. These latest developments hint at serious upgrades for both AK and MP5 enthusiasts, reinforcing the company’s commitment to bringing innovative, practical, and battle-ready accessories to market.

Onward Research AK Handguard

First up, Onward Research revealed a new AK handguard featuring the M-LOK mounting system. The design appears to merge aesthetics and functionality reminiscent of offerings from SureShot Armament Group (SAG) and JMAC Customs. Notable features include an integrated QD sling mount for streamlined attachment options and a sleek company logo etched on the side—an understated yet distinctive finishing touch.

Freeman MP5 Rail: Extending Possibilities

Next in line is a prototype extended MP5 handguard, designed with one particularly intriguing capability: accommodating a 37mm or 40mm grenade launcher. Dubbed the Freeman MP5 Rail, this handguard is built for serious adaptability. It features M-LOK slots at the 3 and 9 o’clock positions, making it easy to mount weapon lights and accessories. At the rear, a 1913 Picatinny section allows for secure attachment of a grenade launcher—or any other mission-specific gear the end user sees fit.

What’s Next?

With both projects moving closer to release, the big questions remain:

1. When will these hit the market? Are we looking at a three-to-six-month window, or will they arrive sooner?

2. What’s the price point? Cost is always a key factor for consumers, especially when balancing performance with affordability.

For now, we’ll have to wait and see. To stay updated on these upcoming releases, follow Onward Research’s social media and check out their website. And as always, stay tuned to Loadout Magazine for the latest industry news and product updates.
