Recently, Kelbly has introduced two new Remington 700 actions called the Prometheus and Nanook. These two new actions share a lot of commonalities and also significant differences. The Prometheus is designed for tactical applications while the Nanook is design for hunting purposes. Let’s dive into the similarities and differences between these two actions.
Both the receivers and bolts of the Prometheus and Nanook actions are machined out of solid steel blocks with black nitride finishes. The receivers feature integrated recoil lugs, anti-shear bolt stops, and are compatible with Atlas barrels. The bolts are spiral fluted and feature Sako-style extractors, Kelbly TG mechanical ejectors, and aluminum knobs and bolt shrouds. Both bolts are available in long and short action depending on what caliber you are running through your platform. The short actions can be ordered with bolt faces compatible with .223 REM, 6 ARC, .308 WIN, 6.5 Creedmoor, .300 WIN MAG, and 6.5 PRC. The long actions are available in .338 Lapua Magnum.
The Prometheus differs from the Nanook by featuring a monolithic 20-MOA Picatinny rail and also comes available with AICS/AW pattern detachable box magazines. These design decision was made to better suit a tactical rifle build for a 700 build. The Nanook action is skeletonized and features an interrupted top Picatinny rail and is compatible with ADL/BDL type magazines. The Prometheus and Nanook both have identical dimensions, however due to the skeletonized nature of the Nanook it weighs 7 oz later than Prometheus.
When it comes down to price it will differ on caliber choice and length. The Prometheus will retail for $1,300-1,400 MSRP. While the Nanook will be between $1,400-1,500 MSRP, depending on caliber and action. Both actions can be purchased in either right hand or left hand configuration. The actions are currently available for preorder, with a $150 discount for those who do.
