Sam Raimi’s cult classic Evil Dead is a part of quintessential 80’s culture, cinema, and horror. This movie introduced us to Ash Williams who ends up fighting against the hordes of the undead with his chainsaw, boomstick shotgun, and biting sarcasm. The iconic character of Ash was brought to life by the funny, sarcastic, and charming Bruce Campbell. His performance combined with the campy, horror nature of the film turned him into a horror icon. Now, the Evil Dead Series seeks to expand the franchise with Evil Dead Rise.

The film stars Alyssa Sutherland, Lily Sullivan, Gabrielle Echols, Morgan Davies, Nell Fisher, and Mia Challis. In the new movie, two sisters find themselves in the fight of their lives when the ancient book the Necronomicon is open. Opening this ancient evil gives birth to bloodthirsty demons that are unleashed on the sister’s Los Angeles apartment. Rise serves as the fifth movie in the Evil Dead Series.

The trailer shows all the classic horror elements that we expect from an Evil Dead movie. There are tons of practical blood and gore effects. We also see homages to the classic Evil Dead series such as a chainsaw-wielding scene.

The new Evil Dead movie is directed by Lee Cronin. Cronin directed the 2019 supernatural horror film The Hole In the Ground. On Metacritic, the film has a weighted average score of 63 out of 100, based on 16 critics’ reviews. So, it seems an average to a slightly below-average horror film. But, don’t fret because Sam Raimi is involved in the project as an executive producer along with Bruce Campbell. So, hopefully, care was taken to preserve and enhance the Evil Dead universe.
