Over the last few years, more firearm manufacturers are building pistols chambered in the exotic 5.7 round. Ruger jumped into the market a few years back with the Ruger 5.7 and then the PSA 5.7 Rock at Shot Show 2022. Now, Smith & Wesson has entered the foray with the M&P 5.7 pistol.
The new M&P 5.7 is the latest pistol in the M&P family. The new 5.7 pistol from Smith & Wesson features gas operated, locked breech barrel system called the Tempo barrel system. This means the barrel doesn’t cam over until the bullet passes the gas port. This allowed for enhanced reliability and increased recoil management by the end user. The M&P 5.7 also features front and rear slide serrations, ambidextrous controls, optics ready, and holds 22 rounds of ammunition per magazine.
Below is the press release from Smith & Wesson on the M&P 5.7.
