Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 follows a Private Park and his squad of South Korean soldiers as they fight to survive and defend their homeland against the pursuing invasion. Their home has become their battlefield. Fighting erupts from house to house and street to street, echoing the brutal urban warfare seen in places like Hue City and Ramadi.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the world, Captain Price has gone dark. No longer operating under official capacity, he wages a personal war from the shadows while attempting to stay one step ahead of the people he once called allies and friends. As Price follows a trail of intelligence, vengeance, and unanswered questions, he begins to uncover forces connected to North Korea’s invasion. This war and its ramifications are unknown.

Modern Warfare 4 aims to return the franchise to the darker tone that defined the original Modern Warfare trilogy. The campaign places a renewed emphasis on grounded storytelling, moral ambiguity, and the human cost of war while bringing several long-running narrative threads from the previous games toward their conclusion.

From the trenches and frontlines of the Korean Peninsula to close-quarters fighting in the streets of New York City, high-speed pursuits through Paris, and large-scale raids across Mumbai, Modern Warfare 4 seeks to blend intense firefights with the explosive set pieces that have become synonymous with the franchise.

Campaign Overview

Players step into the boots of Private Park, a newly enlisted South Korean soldier experiencing the realities of war for the first time.

As seen in the reveal trailer, what begins as a routine patrol and quick stop at a local convenience store quickly descends into chaos. Explosions tear through the city as bombs rain down around Park and his squad. North Korea has launched a full-scale invasion, forcing ordinary soldiers into extraordinary circumstances as they fight to defend their country against a relentless enemy.

The Korean Peninsula serves as a new setting for the Call of Duty franchise. Infinity Ward aims to explore the region’s culture, military traditions, and the historical complexities surrounding the Korean Armistice. More importantly, the conflict in Korea represents only the first domino in a much larger crisis that threatens to spread across the globe.

Captain Price’s Personal War

Captain Price, the former leader of Task Force 141, now operates outside the system he once served.

Driven by intelligence gathered through years of covert operations and fueled by a desire for answers, Price finds himself pursuing a weapon capable of dramatically shifting the balance of global power. His investigation forces him into uneasy alliances with foreign operators, intelligence assets, and individuals whose motives are nefarious. 

As he moves deeper into the shadows, Price is confronted by the consequences of decisions made throughout his career. The further he pursues the truth, the more difficult it becomes to distinguish allies from enemies. For the first time, Price must answer for actions he can no longer outrun.

A World on the Brink

With an ambitious new Supreme Leader, shadow organizations operating behind the scenes, and highly skilled operators conducting wars in secret, the world stands on the edge of a global conflict unlike anything seen before.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 seeks to deliver a campaign built around engaging characters, meaningful stakes, and a darker, grittier narrative. Rather than focusing solely on spectacle, the story aims to examine the cost of war through the eyes of those forced to fight it, from inexperienced soldiers defending their homes to veterans burdened by the consequences of their past.
