Blizzard and Netflix Team Up for a Diablo Animated Series
Over the weekend at BlizzCon 2026, Blizzard Entertainment announced a collaboration with Netflix. The streaming giant will team up with Blizzard to bring Diablo’s dark world of Sanctuary to life with a new animated series.
Netflix has already found success adapting video games and other properties into animated series, with titles such as Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, Arcane, and Castlevania to name a few. There next challenge is bring dark world of Sanctuary to life.
Blizzard’s Official Description of the Diablo Project
“After decades of bringing entire universes to life through our games, we’re partnering with some creative powerhouses to tell even more stories beyond gaming across new screens. A new animated series set in the world of ‘Diablo’ is in development with Netflix. More details will be shared in the future, but this is only the beginning, with even more taking shape across our universes.”
On X, the official Diablo account also announced the collaboration during or shortly after the announcement at BlizzCon.

The Bottom Line
The Diablo animated series is still in the very early stages of development. We will have to see how Netflix handles the source material and the dark world of Sanctuary.
Diablo is dark fantasy universe. The writing team for this project should create a compelling, gritty and dark story. In combination with a desolate, gothic visual aesthetic. The show’s storytelling should feature and tackle mature themes and concepts that remain faithful to the Diablo universe.
This series should easily be a mature-rated television show. This show is not for children.
The Diablo series should have Game of Thrones-level storytelling, complete with the sex, violence, and mature themes that exist within the world of Diablo. That is the world the franchise inhabits, but we will see if the creatives at Blizzard and Netflix have the courage to tell that story.
