Recently, Australia’s Department of Defence has selected Accuracy International’s AX-SR sniper platform as a part of the L159 weapons contract. The sniper chassis will be introduced into service as a multi-caliber system, with the capability of being chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO, .300 Norma, and .338 Lapua.
The Australian Defence Department also selected a Sniper Surveillance Capability package, to provide ADF snipers to grant them day and night capabilities on the battlefield. The new system includes the Safran JIM Compact multispectral surveillance device and Steiner’s laser-range finder binoculars.
The JIM Compact offers 3 spectral brands and integrates advanced functions such as the See-Spot function, Low Light Level identification, real-time photo, and video recording and streaming, channels fusion, and applications for long-range fires, close air support, and artillery. The JIM Compact system can range up to 12,000 meters, according to its technical literature on the device.
The Accuracy International AX-SR was originally developed for the SOCOM Advanced Sniper Rifle program won by Barrett. Below, is the specifications for the rifle:
