Trijicon Expands ACOG Lineup With New MRAD Reticle Options

Trijicon’s Advanced Combat Optical Gunsight (ACOG) has become one of the most recognizable and respected optics in the U.S. military. Originally designed for the M16 and M4 platforms, the ACOG entered the market in 1987. Its reputation grew through military adoption and use, including by U.S. Special Operations Forces and the Marine Corps. Those milestones helped cement the ACOG’s place in modern military history, particularly during the War on Terror.

Over the decades, the ACOG family has continued to evolve. Its latest development addresses a specific request from end users: greater flexibility when using different firearms, calibers, and ammunition types. Trijicon is introducing MRAD-based reticles to four ACOG configurations, giving shooters an alternative to traditional bullet-drop-compensating (BDC) reticles. The change is particularly relevant for users who switch between ammunition types, such as subsonic and supersonic .300 Blackout.

What We Need to Know

Developed through user feedback: Trijicon developed the new MRAD variants through its Voice of Customer (VOC) process, incorporating feedback from users who wanted greater reticle flexibility across different firearm platforms, calibers, and ammunition types.

An alternative to caliber-specific BDC reticles: Traditional BDC reticles use aiming references designed around a particular ballistic profile. Their accuracy depends on factors such as ammunition, barrel length, and other conditions matching the assumptions behind the reticle.

Greater ammunition flexibility: MRAD reticles use angular measurements rather than fixed, caliber-specific holdover references. This gives shooters a consistent reference system for different ammunition types, including subsonic and supersonic .300 Blackout, provided they understand the trajectory of each setup.

Trijicon ACOG TA110 3.5×35 LED $1,359

The Bottom Line

Trijicon’s new MRAD ACOG variants address a longstanding limitation of traditional BDC reticles: their aiming references are tied to specific ballistic profiles. When shooters change firearms or ammunition, those references may no longer align with the new setup’s trajectory.

By introducing MRAD reticles across four ACOG configurations, Trijicon gives users a more flexible aiming reference that can accommodate different calibers and ammunition types.

Shooters still need to understand their individual firearm and ammunition combinations, but the MRAD system offers an alternative to relying on a fixed set of BDC holdovers.

The ACOG’s established design remains familiar, while the new reticle options expand how users can apply it. For shooters who regularly switch between platforms or ammunition types, that added flexibility could make the new variants a compelling option.
