Over the last several years Springfield Armory has stepped further into the AR platform like never before. When people usually think Springfield their popular XD lineup and 1911s come to mind. That perception has started to slowly change with the success of the Saint lineup of rifles by Springfield. The brand has had its initial hurdles but, has been able to surpass those and provide a quality rifle at a good price point. Now, Springfield seeks to make their mark on the AR platform with Springfield Saint Edge Accurized Tactical Chassis—or ATC for short.
The appearance of the Saint Edge ATC will be very divisive within the firearms community due to its unique design. It doesn’t give off the vibe of an modern AR but of something pulled from science fiction movie or Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
Springfield claims the design is inherently functional to how accurately this firearm shoots. This is done through the unique design of the handguards. Most modern ARs feature free float handguards. Those handguards dramatically reduces the outside forces acting on the barrel. These are the type of handguards used on Springfield’s Saint rifle lineup. Those barrel has less outside forces acting on the barrel that improves accuracy. The Saint Edge ATC uses a monolithic handguard. By using a monolithic handguard Springfield seeks to essentially eliminate all those outside forces from the barrel. This monolithic design from Springfield seeks to remove the vast majority of influences upon the barrel to provide the most accurate rifle possible.
The new Springfield Saint Edge ATC features a 18” .223 Wylde barrel from Ballistic Advantage, a SA muzzle break, B5 Systems pistol grip and stock, and a Larue MBT flat face trigger.
Below, is the press release and specs for the new Saint Edge ATC.
Press Release
GENESEO, ILL. (12/8/21) – Springfield Armory® is proud to announce the launch of the SAINT® Edge ATC in .223 Wylde. The ATC, which stands for “Accurized Tactical Chassis,” delivers guaranteed sub-MOA accuracy for three shots with match-grade ammunition and a skilled shooter.
Designed to deliver maximum precision from the AR platform, the SAINT Edge ATC features a patented chassis system made up of a one-piece monolithic lower machined from 6061 T6 aluminum. The free-floated design ensures that the barrel, barrel nut and gas system are totally free from any contact with the lower chassis. Further enhancing the precision performance of the ATC is the Accu-Tite™ Plus tensioning system, featuring an adjustable set of conical set screws in the lower that eliminate any play between the upper receiver and lower chassis.
The SAINT Edge ATC is offered in a standard black model as well as an Elite Coyote Brown variant. In addition to the Cerakote Coyote Brown finish, the Elite variant features a LaRue 2-Stage trigger and collapsible B5 Systems Precision Stock. The standard model comes with a B5 Systems Enhanced SOPMOD collapsible stock and a flat modular match trigger. A B5 Systems Type 23 P-Grip and 20-round Magpul® PMAG® complete the package on both versions.
Both ATC’s feature an 18” barrel in .223 Wylde manufactured by Ballistic Advantage, giving the rifle a high-performance foundation for maximum accuracy. Featuring a 1:7” rate of twist and a rugged Melonite® coating, the 18” barrel provides impressive ballistics and amazing downrange performance. The .223 Wylde chamber provides the ability to fire both .223 and 5.56 NATO, but with a chamber throat that is tight enough to wring the most performance out of match-grade ammunition.
“The SAINT Edge ATC, in both standard and Elite versions, gives precision rifle shooters a great new option that maximizes the performance of the AR rifle,” says Steve Kramer, Vice President of Marketing for Springfield Armory. “With guaranteed sub-MOA performance, the ATC is must-have addition to the collection of every serious precision shooter.”
The SAINT Edge ATC features an MSRP of $1,549, while the SAINT Edge ATC Elite comes in at an MSRP of $1,899. For those that demand guaranteed sub-MOA precision from their AR-style rifle, the SAINT Edge ATC is designed to deliver.
