Italian firearm manufacturer Beretta Holding announced earlier this month that it signed an agreement to acquire 100% of Ruag Ammotec. The European ammo manufacturer is one of the leading manufacturers of small caliber ammunition in the industry. RUAG Ammotec is the owner of Norma, RWS, Rottweil and Geco brands. Beretta Holding will be taking over all product production, sales, and maintain day to day operations at each respective company.

This potential deal will see Beretta Holding acquire a very large company with over 2,700 employees and branches all throughout Europe. RAUG’s website claims to have employees from Austria, Belgium, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Sweden, UK and US. This acquisition by Beretta was three years in the making. President and CEO of Beretta Holding Pietro Gussalli Beretta, spoke about the acquisition of RAUG Ammotec in a press statement saying, “This is a very special moment in the history of our group. We warmly welcome the more than 2,700 employees of RUAG Ammotec to our group having worked almost three years on this project.”

Roughly, 66% of RAUG Ammotec’s production sells to civilians, with the rest being sold to military and law enforcement agencies around the world. Andre Wall CEO of RAUG International spoke about the benefits of Beretta’s acquisition of the ammo manufacturer saying, “We are pleased to have found a renowned industrial partner for Ammotec in Beretta, who will take over all employees and the Thun [Switzerland] site. With its industry experience and global presence, Beretta offers the best conditions to sustainably grow Ammotec’s business activities for the benefit of customers and employees.”

The deal hasn’t been finalized yet. The sale of the Swiss-owned company must pass government and regulatory approval. The deal has already been approved by the Swiss Federal Council. The firms estimate Beretta will take full ownership within next 6 months. Neither party disclosed the financial terms of the agreement.

Beretta Holding and “We have the firearms and the optics, RUAG Ammotec has the ammo, there is almost no overlap,” Beretta said. “This new addition to our group will add a substantial number of high-end brands to our existing portfolio of premium brands.”

The Beretta Holding Group is already the owner of Beretta, Benelli, Franchi, Sako, Tikka, Steiner and Burris. With the acquisition Beretta will be adding manufacturing sites and 16 new companies in 12 different countries. The company will employ over 6,000 people and, as requested by the Swiss Government, fully support and maintain the existing locations.
