The US Airforce has official announced that is has begun to procure the first of approximately 125,000 new Sig Sauer M18 pistols. The Airforce announced back in 2018 that it would opt for the compact M18 over the full size M17 pistol as its next service pistol. The first M18 pistols where made available to Air Force Security Forces in May of 2019.
Recently, Winchester was awarded a Department of Defense contract to provide frangible 9mm ammunition for indoor and outdoor CQB training. The contract from the DoD is valued at $38 million dollars. The contract with Winchester has an indefinite-delivery date and quantity for the frangible ammunition. The contract between Winchester and the DoD has the potential expansion of compensation up to $62 million dollars for Winchester.
Recently, Surefire official announced the launch of their new muzzle device designed for Browning M2 .50 Cal machine gun. Surefire offers two versions of their new .50 Cal muzzle device. One muzzle device was designed for the military use, while the other was designed for the commercial market.

Recently, the DoD has solicited both FN and Colt to compete for foreign military contracts to produce M16A4s. The DoD foreign contract is worth up to $383 million dollars. The M16A4s would be produced for U.S. Allied Nations such as Iraq, Lebanon, and Nepal. Estimated completion date for the foreign contract is April 2025.
Last week, Vortex Optics announced that US Army had solicited the company to produce a prototype optic for the Next Generation Squad Weapon Fire Control Program (NGSW-FC). Now, L3 Harris Technologies and Leupold have been awarded an contract in partnership for the OTA by the US Army for the NGSW-FC also.
Yesterday, it was announced by Vortex that the US Army has issued an Other Transaction Authority (or OTA) to Vortex Optics. In this solicitation the Army is pursuing Vortex to manufacture a prototype optic for the Next Generation Squad Weapon Program-Fire Control Unit. (NGSW-FC).

Recently, Next Level Training (NLT) announced the addition of the SIG P320 SIRT Training Pistol to its lineup. For those how are uninitiated Next Level Training makes training pistols with a resetting trigger for use in dry fire training. The SIRT pistols also have a laser within the trainer to see shot placement upon a target.
Recently, Accuracy International (AI) announced their two new rifle models: the AX MKIII and AX 50 ELR rifles. The new AX MKIII evolved from the AI’s multi-caliber AXMC rifle. The AX MKIII is chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum. The AX MKIII can be converted to chamber .300 WIN MAG and .308. While the AX 50 ELR rifle is an evolution of AI’s AX 50 rifle. The AX 50 ELR rifle is chambered in .50 BMG.
On Tuesday, Trijicon announced the selection of Trijicon VCOG (Variable Combat Optic Gunsight) as the Marine Corps’ Squad Combat Optic or SCO. Trijicon was awarded the $64 million dollar contract for the SCO. The SCO will be replacing Trijicon’s ACOG and Trijicon’s SDO that are currently in use in the Marine Corps.
