This year has been a crazy and very eventual year so far in 2020. From the global pandemic to protest and riots, 2020 has rocked America and the world. All the uncertainty and chaos of the times people have turned to their Second Amendment rights to keep and bear arms.

During the month of May the FBI conducted 3,091,455 checks on the National Instant Background Check System (NICS). The 3 million NICS checks this month shows a 32.1% increase from May 2019. May 2019 saw the FBI conduct 2,320,918 NICS checks which about a million less than this year.

According to NSSF director of Public Affairs Mark Olivia 40% of gun owners are first time gun buyers. Of that 40% of new gun owners, another 40% of those gun purchases where by women seeking a firearm for personal protection. This information was pulled from a survey of firearms retailers throughout the U.S.

This year has seen an explosion of firearm sales here in America due to the uncertainty and chaos so far this year. A lot of the spurring of gun ownership are Americans seeking self-defense in these uncertain times.
