Over the last two decades their has been resurgence in interest of the iconic 1911 pistol within the firearms industry. This resurgence is due to the success of Staccato’s 2011. The 2011 is the natural evolution John Moses Browning iconic and enduring 1911 design. The 2011 shares all the same mechanics, features, and ergonomics of a 1911 pistol. Now, featuring increased magazine capacity, mounting options, and less recoil. The 2011 is a modernization of the 1911 pistol for today’s modern audience. Today, Springfield Armory is proud to announce their first foray into the double stack 1911 market with the new Springfield Prodigy.
The new Springfield Prodigy is the initial offering in their lineup of double stacked 1911 pistols from Springfield Armory. The new double stacked Prodigy utilizes a forged steel slide and frame and features a polymer grip module. The Prodigy is available in a 5” government model or a 4.25” commander model. Both iterations of the Prodigy will come features a match grade bull barrel, aggressive front and rear slide serrations, optics-ready mounting system (uses the Agency Optics System), and Adaptive Grip Texture. The new double stacked 1911s will also come with (1) 17+1 flush fit magazine and (1) 20+1 extended magazine. An optional 26-round magazine is also available.

GENESEO, ILL. (09/01/22) – Springfield Armory® is proud to announce the launch of the Prodigy™ AOS 9mm pistol, the first offering in the new 1911 DS double-stack line of pistols. The Prodigy, available in both 5” and 4.25” variants, enhances the proven 1911 platform with double-stack capacity and a performance-driven feature set.
Optics-ready with raised fiber-optic front/u-notch rear sights as well as an ambidextrous safety and Picatinny rail, at the heart of the 9mm Prodigy pistol is the expertly engineered double-stack magazine. Mounted to the pistol’s forged steel receiver is a polymer grip module that offers capacities of 17+1 in a flush-fit magazine and 20+1 in an extended one, both included with the Prodigy. An optional 26-round magazine is also available.
The polymer grip module features a wraparound Adaptive Grip Texture treatment, made popular on the Hellcat® family of 9mm pistols. Matching up with this grip module and the forged steel receiver is a forged steel slide with forward serrations. Both it and the steel receiver feature a rugged black Cerakote® finish. Housed within the slide is a match-grade bushingless forged stainless steel bull barrel.
Configured for today’s most demanding applications, the Prodigy is ready to accept a wide range of optical sights. Developed in collaboration with Agency Arms, the Prodigy employs AOS (Agency Optic System) plates designed exclusively for the 1911 DS. Machined from billet 17-4 stainless steel, the AOS plates come fitted with a rear sight and are designed specifically to preserve visible iron sights for an intuitive sight picture and instant target acquisition.
The pistol ships with a cover plate with rear sight as well as one optics-mounting plate designed for the HEX™ Dragonfly™ along with a variety of today’s most popular red dot optics. Additional plates designed to accept a wide range of today’s most popular optics are also available on the Springfield Armory Store. Now, a little bit about me. I served six years in the Marines Corps as an 0311. I was in 2nd BN 4th Marines, 5th Marine Reg, 1st Mar Div. I was in Golf Company while in 2/4. I was deployed twice during my time in. I did one deployment to Afghanistan and my second was on apart of 31st MEU. I departed the military in September of 2015. I currently work as an RSO at a local range in Vegas.
