Since its release over two years ago, the Springfield Prodigy has been a mainstay for the firearm manufacturer. The DS1911 offers an excellent introductory pistol for those interested in the double stack 1911/2011 models that have gained popularity over the last five-plus years. Now, Springfield Armory is offering the Prodigy in that oh-so-smooth Coyote Brown Cerakote finish. The new Prodigy variants will be available in 4.25” and 5” models, featuring Agency’s AOS mounting system for red dot sights and come in both standard and 10-round capacities.

Press Release

GENESEO, ILL. (07/24/24) – Springfield Armory® is proud to announce the launch of the Prodigy™ AOS 9mm pistol in a Cerakote® Coyote Brown finish. This new Prodigy variant is available in both 5” and 4.25” models, in both standard-capacity and 10-round versions.
The 1911 DS Prodigy represents a modern take on the proven 1911 platform, providing shooters with double-stack capacity and a performance-driven feature set. The Cerakote Coyote Brown coating not only enhances the durability and performance of the firearm but also offers significant benefits in terms of longevity and ease of care.
Featuring an expertly engineered double-stack magazine, the pistol is optics-ready with raised fiber-optic front and u-notch rear sights. It also features an ambidextrous safety and Picatinny rail. Mounted to the pistol’s forged steel receiver is a polymer grip module that offers capacities of 17+1 in a flush-fit magazine and 20+1 in an extended magazine, both included with the Prodigy. An optional 26-round magazine is also available.
The polymer grip module features a wraparound Adaptive Grip Texture treatment, popularized by the Hellcat® and Echelon™ families of 9mm pistols. Matching this grip module and the forged steel receiver is a forged steel slide with forward serrations. Both it and the steel receiver feature the rugged Coyote Brown Cerakote finish. Housed within the slide is a match-grade, bushingless forged stainless steel bull barrel.
Configured for today’s most demanding applications, the Prodigy is ready to accept a wide range of optical sights. Developed in collaboration with Agency Arms, the Prodigy employs AOS (Agency Optic System) plates designed exclusively for the 1911 DS. Machined from billet 17-4 stainless steel, the AOS plates come fitted with a rear sight and are designed specifically to preserve visible iron sights for an intuitive sight picture and instant target acquisition.
The pistol ships with a cover plate with a rear sight, as well as one optics-mounting plate designed for the HEX™ Dragonfly™ and other popular red dots. Additional plates designed to accept a wide range of today’s most popular optics are also available on the Springfield Armory Store. You can see a full fitment/optics compatibility chart for the AOS plate system here.
“The Prodigy 9mm took everything that shooters love about the 1911 platform and enhanced it with a double-stack magazine and a host of modern performance features,” says Steve Kramer, Vice President of Marketing for Springfield Armory. “With the new Cerakote Coyote Brown versions, the Prodigy line is now offering fans another must-have addition for their collections.”
