FN’s Prototype MK 48 Mod 2 shooting 6.5 Creedmoor

This morning FN Herstal released information on its new MK 48 Mod 2 machine gun. The prototype MK 48 Mod 2 will be chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. The prototype MK 48 is in response to SOCOM’s adopting  of the caliber. FN will be unveiling the MK 48 Mod 2 at this years Special Operations Forces Industry Conference this week in Tampa, Florida. 

The Prototype MK 48 Mod 2 will feature the latest upgrades from FN’s light and medium machine guns. The MK 48 Mod 2 will be chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor, include adjustable stock for length of pull and improved cheek height, improved double-notch sear. Also, added included in the Mod 2 is improved hand guards at 3-, 6-, and 9- o’clock positions, improved bipods, and a more robust feed tray latch, ensuring the feed tray locks during reloads.  

Once the development of the FN MK 48 Mod 2 is complete,it will allow for existing MK 48 Mod 1 to be retrofitted with a barrel conversion and upgrades.
