Daniel Defense surprised everyone at this year’s Shot Show with a product no one expected from the firearm manufacturer by announcing the company’s first expedition into the Pistol Caliber Carbine (PCC) market. Daniel Defense is proud to introduce the new Daniel Defense PCC. The PCC platform is uncharted territory for Daniel Defense; let’s take a closer look and see how the rifle manufacturer chose to tackle the challenge.
The new PCC from Daniel Defense doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel but draws from its engineers’ and designers’ in-depth knowledge of the AR platform. The engineering and design team built a 9mm AR around the CZ Scorpion magazine. The new DD PCC features CNC-machined upper and lower receivers out of 7075-T6 aluminum, full ambidextrous controls on both upper and lower receiver, and a cold hammer-forged barrel, which DD is known for.
The DD PCC is chambered in 9mm and features a direct blowback system with a hydraulic buffer system from Kynshot to reduce recoil. The new PCC uses a custom bolt with shortened components that make it incompatible with other aftermarket AR parts on the market, but most other AR parts and accessories are standard to the AR platform. Such as the trigger, pistol grip, and chatgin
The PCC was also built from the ground up to be fully ambidextrous with the charging handle, selector, magazine release, and bolt catch. The controls are mirrored on both the left and right sides of the rifle. The rifle is also built off of DD’s AR platform as its foundation; the PCC is customizable from the handguards (using the RIS III lockup system), to the AR fire control group, and pistol grip.
The new DD PCC blends the familiar features of Daniel’s rifles and condenses them into a PCC footprint. The PCC looks like an AR and feels like a Daniel Defense in a slimmer package, offering all the build quality and quality components we expect from a DD rifle, such as fully ambidextrous upper and lower receivers and a cold hammer-forged barrel. Replace the standard AR magwell with one for a CZ Scorpion magwell, and you have the new DD PCC.
As of right now, the final pricing for Daniel’s new PCC is unavailable. Daniel Defense plans to start shipping out the PCC late March or early April of this year. For more on the DD PCC or Daniel’s other rifles, click here.
