Meet the Delta 5

As, everyone well knows in the firearms community Daniel Defense is synonymous with quality craftsmanship, precision, and beautifully design rifles. With these fundamental pillars of quality and precision Daniel Defense products comes with a premium price tag. With that price tag you know what you are getting for your hard earned money. A quality rifle with excellent build quality and the ability to handle the rigors of being run like a beast. That is what Daniel Defense is known for within the industry.

Now, Daniel Defense has inserted its presence in another part of the firearms market with the introduction of its first ever bolt action rifle the Delta 5. Daniel Defense kept the new precision rifle a closely guarded secret during its development cycle. The Delta 5 made its worldwide debut at Shot Show 2019 to much praise of the attendees at the convention trade show. The Delta 5 is set to shake up the market of bolt action rifles only the way Daniel Defense can.

Design Considerations

Let’s delve into the design of the Delta 5. (Note: All the information on the design elements I am referring to the Daniel Defense product page and videos they have seen on the Delta 5. I do not have any first hand time with the weapon. I will be highlighting the design features that I think make the Delta 5 stand out among its competitors.) From the bottom up this weapon was designed with the precision shooter in mind. Daniel Defense design team was meticulous and thoughtful with their design of the Delta 5.

Delta 5 Stock

First, I want to discuss the stock of the Delta 5. The stock was designed completely in house by the Daniel Defense team. They went with a polymer stock and wanted a competent ergonomic design for the shooter. Every design element in this stock has the shooter in mind. The Delta 5 has a built in cheek riser with the ability to adjust the yaw in and out to allow for precise view through your optic without the added adjustment of the shooters head to optic for optimal eye relief. Delta 5 comes with adjustable length of pull. They have spacers of ¼ and ½ inch to fit the various shooters needs. Also, a butt pad that has up to an inch of elevation to accommodate those bigger scopes. The Delta 5 also has 11 M-Lok slots for various attachments that the shooter would want to include. Just within the frame of this rifle Daniel Defense has thought of the needs of precision shooters.

The Action and Barrel

The Delta 5 has precision machined stainless steel action and bolt designed for performance in all weather conditions and a DLC coated bolt for smooth operation. The bolt has a innovative Three-lug bolt with a 60 degree throw to allow for faster follow-up shots. A picatinny scope base and adjustable single stage trigger. The trigger is adjustable between 1.5 to 4.5 lbs.

The rifling, chamber, and outside profile of the barrel are CHF (Cold Hammer Forged) for accuracy. The Delta 5 has a bull barrel essentially. Daniel Defense balanced it by shaving the weight by 64% and keeping the accuracy at 95%. (Side note: What the design team did with that barrel is fucking amazing! Excuse my language. But it is pretty damn amazing. ) Finally, the Delta 5 comes with ability to change barrels. That barrel change can be done at the user level. No, need to send it to a gunsmith. (Side note: This is pretty awesome also.) As, of now the Delta 5 supports 7.62 NATO, 6.5 Creedmoor, and 7mm-08 Remington.

Price

The Delta 5 comes in at MSRP of $2,199.00. Which is a hefty penny. I’m not gonna lie about that. Yet, when you think of all that this rifle offers out of the box, the quality and value it brings to the table as a bolt action rifle, and the name behind it easily makes it worth the money. I would easy save my pretty pennies and drop the cash to add this rifle to my collection.

Game Changer in the Market

At, the end of the day what Daniel Defense has done with the Delta 5 is completely a game changer in the precision rifle market. It has given potential shooters a complete and refined precision rifle out of box. This rifle allows you to form and manipulate this to a shooters preference on a level I haven’t personally seen before. In that aspect I applaud Daniel Defense for the meticulous design of the Delta 5. Daniel Defense has put the firearms industry on notice again. The big question is how will the rest of the market will respond. We will have to wait and see on that answer.

Test Drive

I would love to get my hands on one of these Delta 5 rifles and put it through its paces. To see firsthand and experience the Delta 5 for myself.
